On what basis is a leader's authority actually recognised?
We don't have a settled answer. Our method, the 4Cs, is where fifteen years of work have got us so far, and each project tests it again. We work in places where the answer is hard to fake: conflict and post conflict settings, centre of government decision-making, high stakeholder expectations.

Three ways we work the question.
Field research. We go where authority is under strain and study what holds it together. Generation Ukraine looked at how leaders kept people with them through the war. A survey of 150 leaders, run with six universities, asked them what earns a leader the right to lead.
Dialogue. What earns you authority in Paris won't earn it in Riyadh or Kyiv. We put leaders from different systems on the same problems and watch what transfers. The Franco-Ukrainian Leadership Dialogue ran eight months with sixteen leaders.
Applications.Show Up! is a card game built around sixty dilemmas taken from real situations. We use it to support leadership groups and we learn from how people argue.
